How do I place an order?

MEDIEVAL BROADSWORDS for rent

Once a society can manufacture steel, then strong, lightweight swords over three feet are possible. However, longer swords require more and constant training for the warrior, are best utilized when on horseback and were expensive to purchase, so the sword slowly became the weapon of only the nobility.

Most hilts can be fitted with almost any blade.  - prices are for the first 30 days rental per sword when outfitted with the corresponding blade. The sword you receive will probably have a different grip or pommel than that shown in the photo.

Because of limited availability of wide blades, blade substitutions may be required on rental orders at any time.

("what kind of blade do I need?") blade choices

Do you need only the sword, or some way to attach it to the actor as well? Once you're done selecting the hilt and blade, take a look at our  leather goods  rental section which has sashes, belts, frogs and scabbards

405 - CALEDONIA - inspired by the Scottish Claymore, this is an open-work design with four drooping arms meeting gracefully at each end. A fight-friendly choice for the Scottish play when massive swords are desired. The guard is 9 inches across.

costume – [$25.04]    one hand or archer – [$41.22]    zweihander – [$52.00]

401 - GALLOWGLASS - the shape is again distinctively Scottish. This claymore (claidhaem-mor = "great sword") is the weapon of choice for a traditional production of Macbeth.

costume – [$30.53]    leaf – [$44.63]    vorpal – [$55.16]
one-hand, archer or shortsword – [$50.11]

404 – BANNOCKBURN[limited availability] a true two-handed sword, 58" total length. This massive monster is very well balanced.   zweihander  – [$68.83] ; not available as a costume sword

413 - LOMBARD - from the Seine Valley to the battle of Hastings, from Lombardy to Tripoli, the Norman knight dominated warfare of the Middle Ages and transformed forever the concept of the nobleman / warrior. Was this incredible success due to his superior armament, especially the exquisitely crafted sword? Well, actually, no.

costume – [$21.74]    leaf – [$33.39]    vorpal – [$42.09]
one hand, archer or shortsword – [$37.91]

470 - NORMAN - made by CAS Hanwei of China, this is a fully practical single-hand sword. As with all Hanwei swords, the blade is fused onto the pommel, so there is no variation possible on the blade. 2½ lb total weight,  36" overall length.   5" wide steel guard, the blade is 30" long and 1½" wide.   fight-ready   $ 24.00

580 - NORWICH - hefty bronze guard, 8" across. usually a single-hand sword or falchion.

costume – [$26.53]    leaf – [$40.63]    vorpal – [$51.16]    one hand, archer or shortsword – [$45.68]

400-0 - VALENCIA - an elaborate brass guard, so also only a dress piece. costume (short 22 " blade only) – [$20.84]

400-S - VALENCIA (steel) - by contrast, this style is very sturdy, so fully fight worthy blades may be used.

costume – [$20.84]    one-hand or shortsword – [$40.42]    schlaeger – [$34.32]    vorpal – [$45.47]

The following sword guards are all of the cruciform (cross-shaped) style popular among the Christian warriors for its obvious religious symbolism but they photograph rather plainly from the side. We give you a profile view, but then some bird’s eye views of just the guards, not necessarily to scale with the other photos).

414 - NAVARRE - the basic broadsword: light, durable, strong.

costume – [$19.65]    leaf – [$31.30]    vorpal – [$40.00]
one hand or shortsword – [$35.83]

416 - WALLACE - Remember this from Braveheart? This is a reduced version, but it still has the look of the two-handed sword shown in the movie.     costume – [$25.26]    one hand or archer – [$44.42]

411 - BLACK PRINCE - Similar to traditional cruciform swords, but the non-traditional steel arms have been hollowed for minimum weight at maximum strength. 9 inch guard

costume – [$23.48]    one-hand or archer – [$39.65]

418 - VIPER - Perhaps the most most traditional look, with slight beveling in the guard arms. A 12 inch guard, so works best as a two-handed weapon.

costume – [$18.26]    one-hand or archer – [$34.43]

419 - INFERNO - for those who want a little extra flair in their weaponry, a flame pattern is carved into the solid steel guard. A full-sized two-hand guard, way too much for a single-hand fighting style.    costume – [$18.26]    one hand or archer – [$34.43]    zweihander – [$45.22]

427 - EXCALIBUR, PLAIN -  so named because it says "Excalibur" in tiny print on the pommel. Rather plain when viewed from the audience. Unfortunately, everyone has a different idea of what Excalibur should look like, and these have neither a high gloss finish nor are encrusted with jewels. Prop piece only. costume – [$20.00]

426 - EXCALIBUR, FANCY -  A very slightly more ornate version of the next plain Excalibur. Prop piece only. – [$26.95]

431 - RICHARD LIONHEART (silver) - single-hand sword.  Costume only, but very pretty (so why not use this as Excalibur?) – [$26.53]

[Thinking of buying instead of renting? We're selling off the last of these two styles our rental stock! Check out our Attic for some great prices while they last.]
